Frequently asked questions
Q. Is this the same data that the DOW / Parks & Wildlife produce?
A. Yes it is. We take the reports, normalize the data, then enter it into a database. This allows us to correlate up to 3 different CDOW reports onto a single page.
Q. How often do you update the data?
A. The success data is updated in March of every year, usually within a week of it being released by the DOW. The other data (Draw summary, preference points, etc) are updated starting in December of every year. Our goal is to have all of the updated information in the database by the begining of March. This gives you about a month to research and figure out what you want to apply for.
Q. What is the source of your map files?
A. We use several sources to put our map files together. These include the CDOW GIS files, open source programs, and Google Earth.
Q. How can I make those cool map files?
A. We have produced a short starter tutorial, which is available at http://mapscouting.wordpress.com/
Q. Why do you use paypal for payment?
A. It costs to much for have my own merchant account to process credit cards. This allows me to keep the cost to run the site down, thus keeping the costs lower for the customer. Please contact me if you'd prefer to sign up without using paypal.
Q. If this data is open source, why do you charge a fee?
A. Well it costs money to develop, host, and maintain a website.
Q. What if I need a special (not published) report?
A. Just send me an email and I'll see if I can figure it out.
Q. Why don't you do other states?
A. This site was built primarily to help me figure out where to hunt in Colorado. I'll add other states when I get a chance to hunt them.
